Název anglicky: Railway reform in the United Kingdom

Britská železniční reforma je pravděpodobně nejkomplexnější železniční reformou v historii. Její součástí byla úplná vertikální a horizontální separace odvětví a důsledné zavádění konkurence ve všech částech produkčního řetězce. Po více jak dvaceti letech od spuštění reforem je možné vyhodnotit její výsledky. Na jedné straně výrazně vzrostla poptávka i výkony, při současném růstu kvality poskytovaných služeb. Na druhé straně se jako chybná ukázala privatizace manažera infrastruktury a jednotkové náklady v odvětví vzrostly. V důsledku toho se britská reforma jeví jako nákladný mix úspěchů a selhání. Klíčová otázka při celkovém zhodnocení zní, které výsledky je možné přičíst čistě reformě a které výsledky byly způsobeny jinými faktory. Některé ekonometrické studie se snažily tuto otázku zodpovědět, ale řada nejasností přetrvává.
