Kniha ukazuje, jak mohou běžné archeologické a konzervační postupy neúmyslně poškozovat cenné vědecké informace uchované na a v artefaktech. Zaměřuje se na tzv. „neviditelná data“, která lze odhalit pomocí pokročilých analytických metod, a zdůrazňuje význam začlenění analytického přístupu do všech fází archeologické práce. Prostřednictvím praktických příkladů a metodologické reflexe autorky upozorňují na rizika kontaminace, potřebu mezioborové spolupráce a význam datově orientovaného přístupu k ochraně kulturního dědictví. Publikace je určena archeologům, konzervátorům a dalším odborníkům v oblasti péče o kulturní dědictví a ukazuje, že i drobné změny v každodenní praxi mohou výrazně přispět k lepšímu zachování archeologických poznatků.
