Abstrakt

The study examines the identity of the exile art collection of the National Gallery in Prague and its relationship to the artistic heritage of Czechoslovak émigrés. Particular attention is paid to the changing institutional attitudes towards works created outside Czechoslovakia and to the factors that shaped their acquisition and interpretation. The study explores how the inclusion of previously neglected artistic production affected the character of the collection and contributed to the re-evaluation of cultural heritage after the fall of state socialism. By analysing the interplay between collecting practices, memory, and historical context, the chapter highlights the fluid and evolving identity of the collection and its role in preserving the artistic legacy of Czechoslovak exile.
