Abstrakt
This paper presents a pedagogical practice implemented in the English for Academic Purposes classroom at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where students from diverse and diverging communities come together. Drawing on plurilingual language analysis, the practice demon-
strates how comparative language study can foster empathy, inclusion, and intercultural un-
derstanding in conflict-sensitive classrooms. The activities students engage in highlight how linguistic structures encode cultural assumptions and how similar patterns emerge across languages. In doing so, students advance their English proficiency while developing pluri-
cultural and intercultural communicative competences, enabling them to mediate meaning across languages while recognising commonalities that transcend social divisions. The paper concludes with practical recommendations for fostering inclusive learning environments that leverage students’ linguistic repertoires and balance linguistic power dynamics.
