Abstrakt

Taking the form of a conceptual reflection, this chapter examines institutional language policy from the Caribbean island of Trinidad, part of the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago. With govern-
mental initiatives encouraging greater use of Spanish in public life through the Spanish as the First Foreign Language (SAFFL) policy, three selected examples of multilingual public signage from the island’s linguistic landscape are analysed in a preliminary manner. In contextualising these visual aspects of the SAFFL policy it attempts to provide a basis for further research on the topic.
