enforce the unspoken rule which states that “grades are given in favour of student”, expert
has to fixate only one error – the grammatical one.
Кануть в лето
The next error can be classified as a both speech and factual error. On one hand, the
distortion of “кануть в Лету” phraseme, which carries the meaning of “to disappear, to put
smth. out of one's memory”, is usually considered to be the violation of lexical norms,
meaning it is qualified as the spelling error. On the other hand, incomprehension of the
phrase's meaning implies the factual error, since the examinee carries another point whime
mentioning such phrase.
There is another group of errors that usually brings a smile to expert's faces. These
are the examples of such error group:
“Трое в лодке, нищета и собаки”
“Донкий Ход”
“Приключения Екль Бирифинна”
“Над пропастью моржи”
“Вечера на хуторе Близьдик Аньки”
Qualification of such errors does not seem complex, since examinees distort names
of works and, therefore, make factual errors. They can be rarely heard in the spoken
language, and errors that can be encountered in the written language but not in the spoken
one are classified as orthographic errors, according to “Methodical recommendations...”.
Therefore, the examinees' errors that were demonstrated earlier prove that their
qualifications is often indefinite and that clarifications from linguistic reference literature are
required. In our opinion, members of expert commission, despite the convenience, should
be guided not only by methodical recommendations, but also by classical grammar and
orthogaphy dictionaries and handbooks.
